SEPOC Achieves Full Response Record to Methane Alerts – A New Milestone in Environmental Stewardship
27-10-2025Under the leadership and guidance of Eng. Salem Kaity, Executive General Manager of Safer Exploration & Production Operations Company (SEPOC), the company has added a remarkable new achievement to its record of environmental and operational excellence.
In a recent post by Dr. Tharwat Mokalled, Regional Director of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) for the Middle East and North Africa, SEPOC was highlighted as one of the regional success stories within the Methane Alert and Response System (MARS) initiative. Dr. Tharwat commended SEPOC’s swift and responsible actions in addressing methane emissions as part of global efforts to enhance climate transparency and sustainability.
According to Dr. Tharwat’s statement, SEPOC has responded effectively to every methane event detected, conducting field inspections, temporarily shutting down affected wells, and replacing over 50 leaking valves to minimize emissions and ensure safe operations.
This outstanding performance placed Yemen, through SEPOC, among the few countries in the region to achieve a 100% response rate to all MARS notifications, a distinction it shares only with Oman. The achievement reflects SEPOC’s strong commitment to international environmental standards despite operational challenges and limited monitoring infrastructure in the field.
This recognition by the United Nations Environment Programme reaffirms SEPOC’s leading role in promoting responsible energy production and environmental stewardship in Yemen. It also underscores the company’s ongoing efforts to align with global initiatives for emission reduction and sustainable development.
“Transparency drives progress,” Dr. Tharwat remarked in her statement — a message that resonates deeply with SEPOC’s vision for responsible operations and continual improvement under its current leadership.
